Africa's renewable energy transition needs at least $298 billion
Africa's energy demand is expected to increase by a third over the next decade. To meet this demand, the region will need to increase generation capacity tenfold by 2065. The problem is that in order to meet decarbonization requirements, Africa must leapfrog the next stage in the economic development journey of poor countries. A recent study published in the journal Scientific Reports showed that the lowest investment cost among all cases of implementing renewable energy grids in Africa is US$298 billion. This is a major challenge for African economies
